Baruntse lies in the lap between Everest and Makalu. The normal climbing route is the south-east ridge which was used on the first ascent. Since then, many climbers have been successful using this route.
The south-east ridge has difficult sections with 50 degree elevations and a prominent ice cliff. Because of the decreased risk of avalanches in the spring, this season is the best for climber safety. However, some have succeeded in the autumn as well.
