I first got to know Jamling in 2004 on a trip to Mardi Himal. Since then I have engaged Jamling on every yearly trip to the Himalayas. I have also recommended him to several friends. On every trip with him as our guide, my wife and I have always felt well taken care of while enjoying the climb. In the years we’ve known him, he has become more like an old friend. The reasons are obvious to us. Jamling is a truly professional Sherpa who has both the technical and people skills to guide his climbers to the summit.
His technical mountaineering competence, honed no doubt by his Everest and K2 experiences, ensures that we, his clients, are safe in every situation and elevation. He is able to assess our abilities accurately and to manage the risks by adapting the climbing routes and protections accordingly. When it comes to our safety, he takes extra precautions and does not shirk from putting extra effort in e.g setting additional anchors, fixed ropes etc. As a sirdar, he ensures this professionalism is practised by his guides as well. It was with this level of professionalism that I, together with another climber friend, made a successful triple summit of Mera Peak, Lobuche East and Island Peak in the winter of 2006.
On every trip with Jamling as our Sherpa, we have always been well taken care of. Whether it was food, climbing equipment, tents or transport, Jamling always made sure we were kept in the best shape and health for the climb. In the 7 years since I’ve known and climbed with him, I can assuredly say I trust him with my life.
Jamling is a very friendly and humble person with a slightly mischievous sense of humour. I would highly recommend him as a guide to anyone.
